This page covers ferritesec.com, the website. For what the Ferrite application does with your data once installed, see “Does Ferrite phone home?” in the FAQ — the two are deliberately different documents, because they’re different things.

The short version

This site doesn’t run analytics scripts, doesn’t set cookies, doesn’t require an account to download Ferrite, and doesn’t have a contact form. There isn’t much to have a policy about — but here’s the complete, honest accounting anyway.

What’s collected automatically

Like effectively every website, requests to ferritesec.com pass through our hosting provider’s standard web server, which logs the same information any server logs by default: the requesting IP address, browser/OS user-agent string, the page requested, the referring page (if any), and a timestamp. This is standard operational and security logging (diagnosing errors, spotting abuse), not analytics.

The one exception: the Download .exe button routes through a small counter so we know how many people download Ferrite. It records the same fields as the line above, for that one click only, in a file our web server can write to but never serves to visitors. We only ever look at it in aggregate (downloads per day, top referrers) — never to build a profile of an individual visitor, never shared or sold, and never connected to anything you do inside the app itself, which remains zero-telemetry. Nothing else on the site is counted this way.

What this site does not do

  • No analytics or tracking scripts of any kind — no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no first- or third-party tracking pixels.
  • No cookies set by this site. (Your browser’s own settings may still apply to it as they would any site.)
  • No account, email address, or any personal information required to download Ferrite Free.
  • No contact form — the only way to reach us through this site is the email links on it, which go directly to us, not through a third-party form service.

The one background request this site makes

While a tab is open, the site periodically re-fetches a small same-origin version.txt file to detect when a new version has shipped, so a long-open or always-on tab (a kiosk display, for instance) stays current without anyone refreshing by hand. This request goes to ferritesec.com itself, carries no data about you, and is used for nothing but comparing a version string.

Downloading Ferrite

The download link serves the installer directly; we publish its SHA-256 hash so you can verify the exact bytes yourself before running it. Downloading doesn’t require an account, an email address, or any information from you — the download is logged the same way any file request is (see “What’s collected automatically” above), and nothing more.

Purchasing Ferrite Pro

“Get Pro” takes you to a checkout page hosted by Polar Software Inc. (“Polar”), at a polar.sh address — you leave ferritesec.com to complete the purchase. Polar is the merchant of record for Pro: they process the payment and collect what that requires (email address, billing/payment details) under Polar’s own privacy policy. We don’t receive or store your payment details ourselves. A successful purchase issues a license key (Polar emails it to you and hosts a customer portal for it); paste it into the desktop app’s License panel to activate Pro on that device.

Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR — EU, EEA, and UK visitors)

Because this site is reachable from anywhere, GDPR and UK GDPR apply to our processing of your personal data if you’re in the EU, EEA, or UK, regardless of where we’re based. Given how little we actually collect (see above), there isn’t much to exercise rights over — but here’s the honest accounting of what the law entitles you to and why we think we already have a lawful basis for each thing we do:

  • Server/security logs (IP address, user-agent, referrer, timestamp) and the download counter: legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) — operating, securing, and diagnosing this site, and knowing in aggregate how many people download Ferrite. Kept only as long as needed for those purposes; we don’t currently have an exact retention figure published by our hosting provider to state here precisely, and we’d rather say that plainly than guess a number.
  • Billing/payment data at checkout: collected and processed by Polar as an independent controller, under its own lawful basis (contract performance) and its own privacy policy — not something we hold or control. Rights requests about that data go to Polar directly; we’ll point you there if you ask us instead.

Under GDPR/UK GDPR you have the right to: request access to personal data we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, restrict or object to our processing of it, receive a portable copy, and lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority if you think we’ve gotten this wrong. To exercise any of these against us (not Polar), use the contact below — because we don’t run accounts or profiles, most requests amount to us confirming there’s a log line with your IP in it and, if you ask, purging it.
